Ultra-Processed Foods May Impair Cognition in Elderly

An article earlier this year in the European Journal of Nutrition reported that high consumption of ultra-processed foods is linked to worse-than-average performance on one particular test of cognitive function in older US adults (60+ years-old) who did not have chronic diseases such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Two Hospitals Fined for Violation of Medicare’s Price Transparency Law

I’ve long been an advocate for price transparency in healthcare. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (aka CMS) has recently taken action that requires hospitals to post their prices online, which should boost competition and help you shop around to save money. If memory serves, the price posting only applies to a limited number of services. I presume the rare hospitals that don’t accept Medicare and Medicaid payments are exempt.

Claiborne High School coach reinstated until end of football season

Several community members gathered at a Claiborne County Board of Education meeting Thursday.

CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. — A Claiborne County high school coach was reinstated until the end of the football season after he was released from his duties at the end of August, education leaders said on Thursday.

The Claiborne County Board of Education met a Claiborne High School for a board meeting on Thursday. Several parents and community members joined them for the meeting after learning Nathan Medlin was released from his duties.

The district had assigned a new head football coach to the school — Nick Nash.

2 areas teachers in top 10 for Teacher of the Year | Schools

Two area high school teachers are top-10 finalists for 2023 Indiana Teacher of the Year.

Jason Beer, an English teacher at Homestead High School, and Tara Cocanower, who teaches social studies at Bluffton High School, advanced to the top 10 after being named to the Top 25.

The Indiana Department of Education will announce the teacher of the year this fall. The 10 finalists will be interviewed by a panel of former teachers of the year and department of education staff.
