Indiana’s and St. Joseph County’s high school graduation rate sees a slight drop

Indiana’s high school graduation rate for 2022 dipped slightly and most demographics’ rates remained stagnant, but fewer Indiana students needed a waiver to graduate compared to last year.

The Indiana Department of Education released its 2022 high school graduation rates Friday, which showed this year’s state rate dipping slightly to 86.61% compared to last year’s rate of 86.69%.

Rates in several of St. Joseph County’s largest high schools reflected statewide trends with slightly lower state graduation rates. However, others showed steady rates or even slight increases.

But some high schools said they were still looking for other teachers and counselors to help oversee the study tables.

Pointz Career Technology Center principal Heather Davis said the school was struggling to find a qualified math teacher to help with study tables, as most of their math teachers were currently long-term substitutes and many of their students were struggling with math.

“There’s just not enough qualified math teachers to come in,” Davis said.

The early signing period opened on Wednesday, and with it came 14 signees for the Badgers in the class of 2023.

Luke Fickell did a lot with only a little bit of time as the new Badger head coach landed significant flips, a big-time quarterback transfer, and kept a number of Badger targets in Madison who were offered by the previous era.

Jupiter High School gets extra mental health support after student emergency

Many parents and students continue to have questions about a student medical emergency that prompted a lockdown and tense day at Jupiter Community High School on Thursday.

While we don’t know the exact circumstances surrounding the medical incident because of privacy laws, we do know it had a big impact on the school community.

Every Palm Beach County public school has a counselor and behavioral health specialist on campus. But something like Thursday’s emergency brings out more support with therapy dogs, additional counselors, and really a whole team.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The United Nations on Sunday called for Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers to reopen schools to girls in grades 7-12, calling the anniversary of their exclusion from high school “shameful.”

The UN said it is concerned that the policy, together with other restrictions on basic freedoms, will contribute to a deepening of the country’s economic crisis in the form of greater insecurity, poverty and isolation.

“This is a tragic, shameful, and entirely avoidable anniversary,” said Markus Potzel, acting head of the UN mission in Afghanistan.
