A Congresswoman’s 18-Month Fight For A Neglected Tribal School Just Paid Off

WASHINGTON – Buried in the 4,155-page omnibus spending bill unveiled in the Senate on Tuesday is a single sentence that’s likely to go unnoticed by almost everyone – except the freshman congresswoman who fought for it with everything she had for the last year and a half.

“For an additional amount for ‘Education Construction,’ $90,465,000, to remain available until expanded for necessary expenses related to the consequences of flooding at the To’Hajiilee Community School.”

2 areas teachers in top 10 for Teacher of the Year | Schools

Two area high school teachers are top-10 finalists for 2023 Indiana Teacher of the Year.

Jason Beer, an English teacher at Homestead High School, and Tara Cocanower, who teaches social studies at Bluffton High School, advanced to the top 10 after being named to the Top 25.

The Indiana Department of Education will announce the teacher of the year this fall. The 10 finalists will be interviewed by a panel of former teachers of the year and department of education staff.
