Afghans try to divine Taliban plan as girls’ schools open, then close, in eastern province

Many Afghans are following news of a reversal in girls’ school openings in eastern Paktia province for clues on whether the Taliban will loosen restrictions on girls’ education after reneging on a pledge to reopen high schools in March.

In Chad, a mobile school offers nomad children hope | Education News

Chad’s nomads make up almost a tenth of the country’s population and many children in the community hardly get an education.

In a makeshift open-air classroom, dozens of children sit squeezed together on a mat watching their teacher chalk simple sums on a blackboard – a rare chance of education for their nomadic community in Chad.

According to the Denmark-based International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs, fewer than 1 percent of nomad boys and “virtually zero” nomad girls were registered for school in Chad as of 2018.

3rd lawsuit filed over alleged sexual abuse by Hidden Valley educational assistant in Whitehorse

A third lawsuit has been filed over alleged sexual abuse at the hands of an educational assistant at Hidden Valley Elementary School in Whitehorse.

A student and their parents filed a statement of claim to the Yukon Supreme Court last month. The document only recently became publicly available after a judge approved an order to anonymize the plaintiffs’ names.

The lawsuit targets former educational assistant William Auclair-Bellemare, the Yukon government Education Department and the Yukon RCMP via the Attorney General of Canada.

No statements of defense had been filed as of Sept. 7.
