Nova Scotia ECEs stage protest outside education minister’s office, call for living wage – Halifax

Early childhood educators (ECEs) from across Nova Scotia gathered outside the education minister’s office Thursday morning, protesting what they’re calling inaction on their compensation package.

The group began their day of action at Grand Parade, then marched through downtown Halifax to Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Becky Druhan’s office on Brunswick Street.

“I’m here because we’re tired of waiting and not knowing when we’re getting raises,” says Jasmin MacFarlane, who’s been an early childhood educator for the past six years.

“We really deserve more.”

Minister of Education, board retirees weigh in on WRDSB cyber attack investigation

Back in July the Waterloo Region District School Board was hacked with attackers accessing restricted and sensitive data.

The stolen data included both past and present student and employee information some of which dated as far back as 1970.

In mid August the board reported they had recovered the stolen data and any compromised data had been deleted.

As students returned to school on Tuesday, questions were raised about the current state of the hack.

Abduction, murder of Eliza Fletcher leaves University of Memphis students shocked

The education community was left stunned by the kidnapping and murder of Eliza Fletcher, a Memphis teacher who was abducted during an early-morning jog near the University of Memphis (UofM).

New electric vehicle charging stations at WRDSB Education Centre, six public schools

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is making it easier for staff and community members to charge their electric vehicles.

Seven new electric vehicle charging stations are now available, including at the WRDSB Education Center on Ardelt Avenue.

The six others are located at various public schools.
