With the regular legislative session starting today, Arkansas lobbyists and advocacy groups are expecting lawmakers to address issues that range from Medicaid reimbursement rates to farming lessons in elementary schools.
As hospitals struggle to manage rising costs, adjusting the state’s Medicaid rates is a priority for the Arkansas Hospital Association. Inpatient reimbursement rates haven’t changed since 2007 when they were raised from $675 a day to $850. Outpatient rates have stayed the same since 1992, said Jodiane Tritt, vice president of the association.

Surendran K Pattel, an Indian American hailing from Kasargod in Kerala took oath as the district court judge of the Texas Fort Bend County, USA. Surendran beat Republican candidate Edward Krenek in the elections held on November 8, 2022. Surendran hails from a humble background in Kerala. His parents were manual laborers and Surendran himself had to drop out of school in the 10th standard. He and his sister rolled beedis for a living. However, young Surendran didn’t give up. Akron’s children deserve more than a teachers’ strike interrupting their educations.
They also won’t learn much from the more online instructions, the troubling strike plan put forth by the Akron Public Schools to maintain education as required by law. If remote instruction with regular teachers presented learning challenges during the pandemic’s early days, how can temporary teachers possibly deliver meaningful instruction?
We’re reluctant to take sides in this complex dispute, but we will strongly advocate for children of this community.

Oregon education guide encourages schools to hide students’ gender identity from parents
Oregon education officials released a guide Thursday on how schools should deal with gender ideology following “dehumanizing media coverage against gender-affirming education.”
The 48-page guide released by the Oregon Department of Education, titled “Supporting Gender Expansive Students, Guidance for Schools,” also encourages schools not to inform parents of their child’s gender identity.
“To the extent possible, schools should refrain from disclosing information about a student’s gender identity, even to parents,” the document reads.
